The Medical Staff

File:Caduceus.svg

If one takes a careful look at a first aid kit, ambulance, or any medical equipment, they'll see a snake wrapped around a staff.  Why is this? Well, let's go back to the Bible.  There's a lot of different theories, but the Bible is the only original written version.  The Israelites sinned, and so God sent snakes among them.  Then, God told Moses to hold up a snake on a pole, so that whoever looked at the pole would survive.  Pretty awesome eh?
9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

The actual NUMBERS 21 6-9. (NIV)

6And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one (person) that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived (Survived).
