Rant: Study your Bible!

n

This morning I saw a pitiful sight.  My church teacher asked a sixth-grader how many books there were in the Bible.  He didn't know. My teacher asked him the last book of the Bible.  He had to look it up.  That kid came every week.  He came to church for the last 3 years. How could he not know? (Do you know?)

I'm sure your church teacher has told you to read your Bible so that you can tell your friends.  Do you? Second, that is a good reason.

However, I see the Bible as something for ME to read, and SHOW my friends. Show don't tell.  Get it?  The Bible will make YOU a better person, and that will help you testify.

And there's another reason.  Proverbs 32:5 says to read your Bible so you can tell what is real and what's not.  THERE HA!  There is NO Proverbs 32.  There are 31 Chapters in Proverbs.  I bet you couldn't tell.  C'mon man.  If you can read the whole YJK series, you can read the Bible too.  Fine. You can skip the genealogies if you must,  but the Bible is not boring.  It has everything you need.
Read this article.

Very interesting.  The Bible says to watch out for wolves in sheep's clothing.  Really.  It's important to read the Bible so that you can tell what is real.
A chain letter said something like: If you deny me for your friends then I'll deny you or something like that.  THERE ARE NO EMAILS ABOUT GOD THAT NEED TO BE FORWARDED. PERIOD.  I'll put up that email later.

And speaking of which,  The Bible says:

Revelation 22:18-19

King James Version (KJV)

18For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

So if you make up some verse (1 Hesitations 4:3), make sure you say it's fake. Better not to take my chances. ;-)

If you hear a verse that you doubt is true, look it up.
Being a christian isn't just going to church.

  1. Think that's bad? All of the kids in my small group didn't know what the first book of the bible was! (They had to use the table of contents!) So we spent a whole hour memorizing the first ten (that's it, ten!) books of the new testament. They kinda learned it, then promptly forgot it next week.
